CPU Advice

Hello,
I have a D920 on an asus P5k-SE mobo, 550 power supply 4 gig 6400DDR2 mushkin ram. What kind of increase in performance would I get with an 8400 quad core? I,m not a kid and don't pretent to know what you people do.I just need beter performance to run a better GPU [ ati 1550 pro existing ] so I can do some cad design [ retiring next year and want to do consulting part time. Thanks for your help

I do not have expeirence using those particular CPU's, but here is a trusted website that will give you an idea of the performance difference: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/94?vs=89
They obivously do not have every processor so I chose the one most similar to the one you are using, it is a newer CPU so the performance gap will be greater than what you see on the chart, by how much though I cannot say.
