This gigabyte board says it supports AM2+/AM3 cpus but has the following note:
"If you install an AMD AM3/AM2+ CPU on AM2 motherboard, the system bus speed will downgrade from HT3.0(5200 MT/s) to HT1.0 (2000 MT/s); however, the frequency of AM2+ CPU will not be impacted."

If I upgrade the cpu (from X2-5200 to Phenom II X4 955 or similar) will I lose all the performance gains due the slower system bus speed? Thanks.
 
Solution
There will be no performance impact except in conditions wherein you want to use the motherboard's integrated video chip. If you are going to use a dedicated video card then there is no reason to worry about.
