Graphics Upgrade-Reasonable Upgrade

Hello Everyone!

I have a pretty standard question that gets asked a lot but, thought I'd try my luck here anyway.

Here is my set up

AMD 940 3.0ghz quad
4GB DRR2 1066 RAM
9800GX2
MSI AMD 790GX chipset mobo
24' 1920 x 1200 monitor

I enjoy playing my games on max with great framerates. My current card usually does the trick but, as I start playing newer titles I have to start scaling down or lower FPS.

I am thinking about the 5870 or 5830 CF or Nvidia camp 470.

I am open to other cards and configurations.

Which offers the best gain/value considering my setup and desired FPS/quality?

  1. if you have the money, the ATI 5870 would be the way to go followed by the GTX 470.

since you can CF, CF the 5770 would be a good value solution for you. The 5770 is more power efficient then the 5830.
  2. How comparable is the 5830 cf v 5870?

Is either a big jump from my 9800GX2?
  3. Actually looks like the 5850 CF looks like a viable option for my budget.

I assume that would be superior to the 5870?

for games that support CF, it would be a good deal better then a single 5870
