There is no f lock button on this laptop. The default function of the machine is that in order to use f1 - f12, i have to hold the fn button. So if i am playing a game and i have a key binding set to f1 without holding fn, the machine would go to the windows help feature (which is what HP has it set to on default). I am asking if there is a way i can reverse this so that would have to hold fn to use the silly new-user friendly features rather than hold fn to use f1-f12

u Can disable that functionality by disabling "Action Keys Mode" in the BIOS...
Interesting - I need to disable the F1 key on my desktop PC - or at least turn off the Windows Help that pops up each time I hit shift + F1. Know how to do this? That is, without installinga 3rd party program?
Thanks! THis is a desktop PC (not a notebook), but I will give it a try. You've given me a new term to look up if it doesn't work - I've just been calling them "F keys" but using "action keys" might help. Thanks again!
