Greetings! Thanks for taking the time to look.

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: this week (August 23, 2010)

BUDGET RANGE: $1500+/- sans possible new monitor

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Gaming, Movies a close second, Internet

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: newegg.com

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: I require the components listed below

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: USA

PARTS PREFERENCES: see below

OVERCLOCKING: No / Maybe

SLI OR CROSSFIRE: No / Maybe

MONITOR RESOLUTION: current monitor is 1920x1200; this may change.

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Funding is not a problem and I'm willing to spend more if needed. After doing research I feel like I can fulfill my computing needs by staying within the range listed above. Spending an additional $1000 to eek out another 1 or 2 FPS isn't a good--to use a term from my wine world--QPR.

I don't OC my current rig and have no experience doing so, but I'm not opposed to it.

The GPU I chose was recommended highly but when I compare it to similar, cheaper, 5870's I'm not sure why I shouldn't go with one of the less expensive verisons.

This is my current monitor: HP L2335 Carbonite/Silver 23" 16ms Widescreen LCD Monitor with Height & Pivot Adjustments 250 cd/m2 500:1.
I purchased it in 2006 for $950 and it has been great. The response time and contrast ratio seem to be where it is lacking compared to today displays. Would I see a noticeable increase in viewing pleasure if I upgrade?

Additional items drawing power from the PSU:

Western Digital Caviar Black WD1501FASS 1.5TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic 7.1 Channels 24-bit 96KHz PCI Interface Sound Card

Perhaps another 320GB HD and various USB devices for brief periods of time (Camera, Phone, IPod) and a wireless network card. Is the PSU below enough?

The motherboard has USB3. If you also want SATA 6GB then get the Gigabyte P55A-UD3 which is newer and has both.

You want to get newer designed hard drives with 500GB platters. Samsung F3 1TB, seagate 7200.12 1TB, WD Caviar black 1TB "FAEX" model, not FALS. The platter is more dense so the head reads more data in the same amount of time. There is also a WD Caviar Black 2TB model, look at the HDD articles here to get the model number of the fast one. If there was a good 1.5TB model it would probably be "FASX" instead of the FASS you linked.

Check out your power supply in the linked guide. You may be able to get a better quality Antec or Corsair for less. Beware the Corsair 650TX-C, Corsair contracted it to a different company and the lack of quality is showing. The older 650TX was made by seasonic and was a great PSU.
