My gateway 450'd HD failed.I replaced it but that was not all of my
problems.
The laptop will sometimes power up ok but other times will just turn on the
fans and the bios will not even come up.
Ctl-ALT-DEL has no affect.
Before the HD failed I had begun to have lockups also but once the drive
failed I assumed they were related to the HD.
I am opertaing xp-pro with sp2 installed. This I was able to add to the new
HD. I sometimes get microsoft error thta either video ATI hardware has
failed causing an infinite loop or that the driver is responsible.
The driver is the latest from GaTeway and in always worked before.
In any case the 450 works fine when it works but then it locksup.

After a few hours with Gateway techs is appears there is a motherboard
failure, possibly video hardware or PC board.
The online techs are ok but there only suggestions involve defrag, reinstall
windows etc. Pretty standard stuff.
Anyway, I was satisfied with their response in the end.

Good luck, I ended up going to the better business bureau to get
satisfaction, that's when they sent me a second new laptop. Unfortunately
this one is as bas as the original.
