ATI drivers won't work on Windows 7??

Last response: in Windows 7

Just installed a new SSD (OCZ Vert3 280gb) Ive run windows 7 in the past, have 2 Radeon 5870s. When i try to install the ATI drivers, when it reboots, the screen is black, but I can see a cursor. I can't do anything else. I've looked this up online and people recommend using an old driver, 9.6 or earlier. These seem to be incompaitble though and don't install properly. This is ridiculously frustrating. Anyone know how I can properly install these silly graphics drivers and move on? They don't make it easy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For anyone with similar problem in the future, figured it out. Had an HDMI cable plugged into my gfx card connected to my TV. I unplugged it and reinstalled and it works great. It's usually the simplest explanation.
