Start Menu -> type in Disk Management -> Option about creating and formatting HDD partitions should come up -> Your drive will be in there -> Right click, initialize and format it (using NFTS) -> Should now be in Windows Explorer.

Its at this point where I advise you update its firmware, as these updates are often destructive and you lose everything on the drive when you do them. So do it now while its empty.
