I am not to sure but I think it wont work.

I have GA-EX58-Extreme with 6gb of ram Super Talent

I want to update my memory to something a little faster and move my super talent to my AMD machine.

Now my motherboard says it takes 1.5v of memory. If purchase anything above that will it cause problems or do i have to config it so that it receives 1.5v instead of 1.6.

For example i was looking at Dominator it has 1.65v can i leave it as is or do i have to tune it down to 1.5v to work in my mobo. (but i feel if i tune down it be waste of money)

I dont wanna purchase anything just yet but probably in the next month or so

Solution
3x2GB 1333 MHz 8-8-8-24 @1.50v ; Super Trident -> AMD

3x2GB 1600 Mhz 8-8-8-24 @ 1.65v ; Dominator -> X58

Depending on your AMD MOBO the 6GB Super Trident kit should work fine; some older AMD MOBO's require both Channels to be the SAME SIZE and some don't. Worst case on the AMD you'd have 4GB Dual Channel; otherwise 6GB no Dual Channel - very little speed differences on DDR3.

Next, ANY X58 i7-9xx can run 1.65v DDR3, and the Dominator set you posted is one of the best 3x2GB - period after the TR3X6G1600C8D.

I am not worried about AMD board bc i know the mem will fit and work. ( also waiting on AMD make true triple channel board but thats another topic)

I am more worried about my i7 rig, the memory not being compatible bc its 1.65v instead of 1.5.

I was just reading from the specs that my board takes 1.5v i don't wanna blow or fry any memory channels that's all

Most all X58 >1333 MHz Tri Channel RAM is 1.65v, and again zip to be concerned about. The i7 9xx IMC is totally fine with 1.65v DIMM 1600 MHz+ and up to 1.40v QPI/DIMM voltages. Perhaps the confusing point is the current availability of higher frequency 1.5v RAM, smaller lithography, and more common. Further, there's no way that I would purchase 1600 MHz @ 1.5v for any of my X58's too many problems requiring overvolting to correct errors.

Therefore X58 & RAM:
1333 MHz @ 1.50
1600 MHz @ 1.65v
1800 - 2000 MHz @ 1.65v ; 160+ BCLK OC and QPI/DRAM 1.30v-1.40v
1600 MHz @ 1.50v ; can require DRAM overvolting per spec

The Sandy Bridge can run 1.65v RAM, many of the 1866+ MHz is 1.6/a.65v, but the SB's IMC is better suited with 1.50v. Likewise the Ivy Bridge will be better suited with 1.3v but on all accounts will run 1.5v RAM.

Hmm so you think its going to work....?

I am editing this because I dint even think to look Crucial [/url ]page says its going to work lets hope so

IMO - CMP6GX3M3A1600C8 is great, and Crucial is okay. My Preference is: Corsair, Mushkin, Kingston, G.SKILL and Crucial - in that order.

I KNOW the Corsair CMP6GX3M3A1600C8 will work on your GA, but do NOT use the XMP settings. GA + XMP = BSOD too many times. Set the RAM Manually only. Most feedback I see on RAM is because people lack the knowledge to set their RAM properly; No 'Auto' is going to get you 1600 MHz on any X58.

Memory Multiplier -> 12 ; BCLK 133.33 MHz x 12 = 1600 Mhz
DRAM Timings -> Quick
//Set CAS Timings = 8-8-8-24-2N ; 2N is the Command Rate
DRAM Voltage -> 1.65v
QPI/DRAM Voltage -> 1.30v

I just noticed the CMP6GX3M3A1600C8 is sold-out, either wait, buy somewhere else, or $160 3x4GB CMP12GX3M3A1600C9 I have 12 X58's now and they are running Corsair Dominator flawlessly for over a year - knocking on wood ;)

edit: 1600 MHz 3x2GB alternatives; IMO Mushkin Enhanced if not Corsair -> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007611%20600006127%20600006076&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&CompareItemList=147|20-145-289^20-145-289-TS%2C20-226-133^20-226-133-TS%2C20-231-335^20-231-335-TS
