Hello,

I am currently looking to purchase a new PC specifically for photoshop use. and internet browsing.

I don't play any games so gaming ability is irrelevant to my needs.

I have been looking at the Dell machines, specifically the Inspiron 580.

My budget is <£600.

They have two machines one with an i3 Processor 550 (3.20GHz, 4MB)and the other with an i5 Processor 760 (2.80GHz, 8MB).

Which processor is better?

I am pretty much PC illiterate so all assistance gratefully received especially if anyone has any other recommendations.

RAM wise I was looking at a minimum of 6gb.

Many thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to the forums
Definitely go with i5 760 because apps like PS benefit from quad core CPUs.

Basic specs:

i3 - I would upgrade the RAM to 6 or 8gb:

Intel® Core™ i3 Processor 550 (3.20GHz, 4MB)
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English
4096MB Dual Channel DDR3 1333MHz [4x1024] Memory
1TB (7200rpm) SATA Hard Drive
16X DVD+/- RW Optical Drive (DVD & CD read and write)
ATI Radeon™ HD 5450 1GB DDR3 graphics

i5:

Intel® Core™ i5 Processor 760 (2.80GHz, 8MB)
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English
6144 MB Dual-Channel DDR3 1333 MHz [2 x 2048 + 2 x 1024]
1TB (7200rpm) SATA Hard Drive
16X DVD+/- RW Optical Drive (DVD & CD read and write)
ATI Radeon™ HD 5450 1GB DDR3 graphics
