Hi all,

I have bought a Lenovo Y480 which comes with Win8 and a 5,400rpm 1Tb HDD. I want to upgrade the HDD to an SSD and would like to use the 1Tb as an external drive.

Can someone please suggest some enclosures that offer SATA III and will work with a 1Tb 2.5" drive.

What I'm unsure about is whether I need USB 2 or 3, and whether I should be concerned about the thickness of the HDD (I can't find anything out about it despite trawling through pages and pages on Lenovo and Google's searches)?

Many thanks,

Matt

Unless the laptop has an esata port then you'll want to get a usb 3.0 enclosure. Laptop hard srives are generally smaller then regular hard drives and will fir a 2.5 connection space , muich like a SSD only a little thicker.

Brilliant - that's exactly what I wanted to know! Thank you.

I've checked and the Y480 doesn't have an esata connection.

Really appreciate your help.
