Memory problems

Hello,
recently i have noticed on initial boot i have 6gb of memory, after i shutdown and boot back up i get the correct 8gb. can you guys point me in the right direction for diagnostics. im using a ASUS P6X58D Premium LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
with G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Dual Channel X2

yes, update your bios, this is a semi common problem with asus 1366 mobos. also, make sure you have the correct dimms populated for dual channel / 4 stick configs.
