I have a Sony digital camera that uses memory sticks.
Someone tried to download the images on a memory stick and somehow deleted
them all.
Is there a way of recovering the images?
TIA

I have used a product from http://www.imagerecall.com/ to recover lost
files from my CF cards. Thier web site indicated Memory Stick is also
supported. They have a free trial version so you can see if it will
work or not before you buy.
It is important that you not use the memory card/stick until you have
recoverd the lost pictures from it. If you do, some of your lost picts
may be lost forever, but the rest can be recovered.
Good luck.

Thanks very much.
I appreciate the info.

John,
Depending on exactly what happened in the above attempt, you should be able to
do a recovery. First thing I'd do is Google "image recovery software," and do
a bit of reading on what freeware might be available. Also, www.tucows.com is
a good resource for free/shareware, with a good search function. Sandisk
offers one, as do many card mfgrs. Check their Web sites. I think you will be
better served, if you are trying to do this from a card reader, rather than
through the camera's USB/Firewire connection to your computer. While I have
yet to have to resort to these utilities, I've seen a lot of good stories
about what they were able to recover.

John, I had the same problem about three months ago. As another poster said
earlier, make darn sure you do not write to the memory stick before data
recovery; otherwise, you will overwrite and they will be lost forever.
Here was my experience. I tried several programs by searching for them with
Google. Most of them are neutered programs that aren't worth a craaap.
Some of them want you to invest money into them before you know whether they
will work or not. I made the mistake of investing in one of them, and it
didn't work.
However, I have good news. I finally ran across one that did work! It is
called PC Inspector Smart Recovery. You can find it at the following
location:
There is a download tab at the top. Also, right underneath the picture of
the box, it says it's free.
Give it a shot and let us know if it helped you or not. It recovered every
file that I had deleted. I also formatted the CF card, and it still
recovered the files.
Good luck.

You can probably use a file recovery utility. There are tons of them,
some free, some not. Kent Briggs' Directory Snoop is pretty good and
I'm sure others are too. Try a web search.

Thanks, Clyde.
I had already recovered the files through two other programs. But I was so
impressed that I added this program, too.

Thanks, Pete.
Okay, so now I have four programs.
Soon, I will need a 12 Step Program for resisting file recovery programs.

John,
Just for future reference, as this question gets asked a lot, what program(s)
did the best for the recovery?
