XFX 5970 fan doesn't speed up

Hi,
About a week ago I intalled my new XFX 5970 Black Edition graohics card, I'm really happy with it. However this is the first time i've used an ATI card and the Catalyst Control Centre doesn't seem to supprt a manual fan control or temperature monitor. I downloaded GPUZ and under load i'm getting around about 76c however the fan stays at 30%. I thought this would have speeded up. I looked on XFX website and apparently you have to flash the BIOS of the GPU in order for it to provide a manual fan control although if anything goes wrong they won't accept liability. This just cost £490.00 so am reluctant to flash the BIOS. Is the an speed normal or does anyone have any suggestons?

Thanks.

More about 5970 doesn speed
  1. In the drop down menu select ATI Overdrive, there is a tick box for enabling manual fan control.
Other options that provide better control would be setting up a fan speed profile with either ATI Tray Tools or Rivatuner.

  2. Oh thanks, I didn't spot that.
  3. Not a problem. Unfamiliar software can make the most hardened tech nut look stupid from time to time.

  4. I get the activity and temp monitor but no where to manually set the fan speed. Looks like I may have to flash the GPU BIOS after all.
  5. you have 5970, fatory OCed and youre getting 76c under load.

those temperatures are absolutely perfect, even more for a 5970

I thought so but just wanted to have the feature. I read through the overdrive help and it says it should have a manual fan control but it just doesn;t appear. I am running the latest version.
  7. Click on the picture of the padlock to open the feature.

also try downloading msi afterburner and see if you can adjust it from there
