Forum Motherboards & Memory : Motherboards HP Pavilion Elite e9120y - Motherboard Rejecting CPU

I recently had to replace my AMD Phenom II 910 with a Phenom II 945 and after checking that the CPU was supported on my motherboard ( http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc [...] 42903#N142 ) I couldn't figure out what was wrong, HP says that the mobo supports Phenom II's 9xx/9xxe/8xx.

Note: I have not updated my BIOS (Although since it supported the 910 and it says it supports all 9xx/9xxe I would have assumed it should have worked). Also financially I cannot afford to buy another CPU since NewEgg does not accept returns of this kind.

I checked that the wattage (95), socket type(AM3), and core type(Deneb) were all the same compared to my old CPU and compatible with my motherboard before I bought the CPU. Unfortunately I am beginning to believe that the information on the motherboard itself is false.

Any help at all is majorly appreciated, my head is starting to hurt from all of this.

I have the same e9120y HP PC...
I'll save you some time and frustration!  (As of Bios firmware 5.08 and pre) One thing that's not listed as part of the supported CPUs and that wasn't relevant at the time of creating the list of supported processors, is that the processor must be a C2 Stepping version (i.e. 910). The 910e is a C3 stepping version and will not work on your board! I installed a x3 720 95w (HDZ720WFK3DGI - OEM) and I overclocked it to 3.5GHz using the latest AMD Vision Control Center (Video Cards...CCC ). Overclocking is not supported in the Bios, thus the application route. There's other application solutions for overclocking the OEM board, Google ... PhenomMsrTweaker. I'm yet to verify that I'm not drawing too much current when overclocking the x3 720 processor to 3.5GHz! Note on the Phenom part numbers, W is for 95W, I is for C2 Stepping!!! If you do decide to go the 945 route, verify that the part number has a W=95W & an I, not an F=125 without a preceding W, nor an M at the end of the part number (MBox...M-OEM) ...I've seen them listed/described incorrectly!
