Performance for small harddrive compared to large

I'm looking for a new harddrive, I need around 150GB, but a SSD is too expensive. So I'm looking at normal drives, I can get a disk at this size pretty cheap, but how is performance compared to newer larger disks? I'm thinking the larger disks are newer and bigger, but are they also faster, or is the improvments only in size and not speed?

If rotation speed is the same, I'd expect the smaller drive to have slightly better seek times since the read/write head won't have to move as far when going from an inner to outer track.

Other than that, it will depend on which model drives you are comparing. You will need to check the specs on both drives.

Like Hawkeye said, compare the specs on the drives your looking at, or post them here so we can take a look.
