New Gaming Computer

Hi everyone,

I'm after a new computer for gaming, my budget isn't really an issue, I'm just after a nice price/performance level.

So far I've got this, please tell me if there's anything that stands out as a bad idea.

Graphics Card: GTX 460 1GB
CPU: Core i5-760 (the 760 is cheaper than the 750 here)
Motherboard: GA-P55-USB3
RAM: Corsair CMX4GX3M2A1600C8

I already have a monitor, case, HDDs. I run windows 7 in 1920x1080 resolution.

A question I have is whether triple channel is significantly better than dual channel for me (if so please recommend a mobo).

Thanks for all your help!

  1. You can't use triple channel memory with the i5 760 so you don't need to worry about it because it's not supported.
  2. thanks
  3. Go for a 6850 or 6870 as the GFX. The 760 is a great processor to OC, it will go to 4ghz no issues, the 460 will be a sort of bottleneck compared to the raw power of your CPU, the 6870 could offset that somewhat, as could a 470 to be fair. For upgrate purposes, get a 6870 and an Xfire capable board, as a 760 + 6870s in Xfire would make an amazing rig :D
  4. cheers for the recommendation, I'll have a look at the prices on those :)
