Check everything. First run an antivirus and trojan scan with the free Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10 ( http://rescuedisk.kaspersky-labs.com/rescuedisk/updatab... ), copy the image to a CD and then start up from it and scan the system. Then run memtest86+, more freeware, from here: http://www.memtest.org/

Post your results and we can go from there. Worst case would be a repair install of Windows 7, which saves all programs and data. Back up your critical data now anyway, just in case.

The fastest way to fix the problem is going to be a repair install, here is a step by step: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-instal...

Although it will not erase your data or programs, you should backup important data first. Also you will have to re-apply Windows updates.

FWIW I did a complete new install of windows but it has not helped me at all. Please let me know if you have found a solution as this problem is killing me!

I highly recommend the free Microsoft Security Essentials over any of the security suites -- they all seem to cause issues, many of them network issues. Glad to hear you got it fixed!
