my daughter spilled some juice on my laptop and it stopped working. is it worth trying to fix using information from your site? would putting in a new motherboard be a logical first step? thanks

Laptops are proprietary; the boards are sometimes available on ebay. But changing out a motherboard on a laptop is a little more difficult. You may want to take it to a shop for a free estimate. You may find it's cheaper to remove the old hardrive to recover your files and buy a brand new laptop.

Also depends what your laptop is worth, sometimes the boards cost more than the machine is worth.

Some laptops can be extremly tricky to access and reassemble.

I can tell you I had a similar incident once-

1. Removed the keyboard.

2. Sat laptop in airing cuboard for a few days.

Keyboard was dead but laptop fired up again and is still going.

Hi i saw this thread and wondered if you could tell me if you had to replace the keyboard or if it can be cleaned with alcohol as i have the same problem, laptop fires up working perfectly but no keyboard working.

Thankyou, please reply to mhelder@live.co.uk
