  1. Hello. Here is what I recommend for the core computer parts. You'll need to add the KB/Mouse, Monitor, Case & DVD Drive. The reason why I left those out is because those parts tend to require personal assessment.

    AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2 GHz Black Edition - $152.99

    MSI 870A Fuzion - $139.99, $7.87 shipping

    G.Skill Ripjaws Series 2x2 GB F3-12800CL7D-4GBRM - $97.99

    MSI N460GTX GTX 460 1 GB Cyclone - $229.99, $7.56 shipping

    Samsung Spinpoint F3 1 TB - $74.99

    XFX P1-650X-CAH9 650W - $99.99

    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OEM - $99.99
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116754

    Total (so far) = $911.36

You still need a monitor and a case, so if this seems too pricy I'd probably just drop the graphics card to an HD 5770.
  2. Tower with OS $934AR

    23" LCD $165

    $1099AR Grand Total
  3. Both builds look nice - but to be honest, I'm aiming for the 5870 vs the nVidia. Also:
How much difference is there between a mobile and a desktop 5870? I mean, will there actually be a large FPS difference?
Also, on Newegg reading feedback for teh GSKILL Ripjaws suggests that AMD processors can't use the full bandwidth of the 1600 RAM?
  4. 1. Mobility versions of GPUs are downclocked/watered down for the most part
    2. Yes they can - just set RAM manually @ BIOS ^^
