Hello. Here is what I recommend for the core computer parts. You'll need to add the KB/Mouse, Monitor, Case & DVD Drive. The reason why I left those out is because those parts tend to require personal assessment.

AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2 GHz Black Edition - $152.99

Total (so far) = $911.36

You still need a monitor and a case, so if this seems too pricy I'd probably just drop the graphics card to an HD 5770.

Tower with OS $934AR

23" LCD $165

Both builds look nice - but to be honest, I'm aiming for the 5870 vs the nVidia. Also:
How much difference is there between a mobile and a desktop 5870? I mean, will there actually be a large FPS difference?
Also, on Newegg reading feedback for teh GSKILL Ripjaws suggests that AMD processors can't use the full bandwidth of the 1600 RAM?
