I wanted to increase my storage space on my desktop so I bought an internal 3TB WD Caviar Green SATA drive. I installed it as an additional hardrisk into my dell which runs windows 7 64bit OS. I am using a 6gig SATA 3 cable and I have tried it on 2 different open ports on my mother board.

The drive fails to recognize in Disk Management so I cannot initialize and partition it. The only applicable software available on the products webpage says that I must first install a WD product before I can use the software, but as I said I have ensured correct physical installation already.

any help you can provide would be much appreciated.

Is it recognized in the bios?

Anyways, if you go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Device Manger -> Disk Drives -> Volumes and hit Populate, it should make it visible.

I think I read on some reviews of the 3TB+ drives that you need to format them with a different program then the standard windows program. I could be wrong on this. You can always goggle search on 3TB drives for Windows 7.
