Hello, Can I replace (4) 2gb 1333mhz 1.5v with (4) 4gb 1600mhz 1.65v? I have an ASUS CM1730 with AMD Phenom 11, supports max 16gb. I can get the 1600mhz for 1/2 the cost of 4gb 1334mhz. Will it work or would I do bad things to the system?

Solution
16GB of RAM is overkill for most users. Unless you specifically use the few professional-level programs that can use a large amount of memory, 8GB is enough.

Other than being overkill, the 16GB of 1600 RAM should work fine in your system as long as it's from a quality manufacturer.

The system belongs to my father-in-law; i.e., $80 (less than a tank of gas in his Range Rover) to max the RAM in his 3 week old system is a no-brainer. The RAM is Kingston KHX1600C9D3K2/8GX.

He logs in to his firm's site via Citrix and simultaneously has many windows/tabs open to access databases, records, and MS-Office programs through that connection. He believes the lag is more on his end rather than the connection speed/lag from remote access. For $80 of his money and 10 minutes of my time to pop them in, I'm not going to argue with him. Real speed improvement or placebo effect, I'll still get points for doing it!

Will the mobo auto-adjust to the new voltage and speeds, or is there a good chance I'll need to tinker in the BIOS?

Thank you

Okay; thanks for your help. I'm sure if I poke around on here I'll find a thread on how to do it.
