hey everyone, just looking for some advice; finally got a job and feel its time to upgrade my pc , with a view to playing this years games at highest settings ( new fallout etc). my question is, what needs to be upgraded first, as im not sure what is bottlenecking my system, and what suggestions for mid-high end components have you?

Vista 32

2gb nividia Ram

core 2 duo E8400 @ 3ghz

GEforce 8800 gts

XP Powersupply ATX 630W Retail SLI,

Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L, P35, Socket-775,ATX, GbLAN, DDR2, ICH9, PCI-Ex1

what needs to be dome first? windows 7+ram? graphics card?

Win 7 64.

Both a core2quad CPU and 4GB RAM would be nice boosts, but they wont be useful when you take the next step and upgrade the CPU/RAM/Motherboard.

Until you increase the CPU and RAM, upgrading the graphics card will give you limited return on investment.

I would say buy 2gb of RAM and one GTX 460 1gb card, then whenever you upgrade your entire system, add a second 460.

What's your budget. The 8400 is a bit of a bottleneck in modern games.

If limited -- 2GB more of ram, GTX 460, Windows 7.

If not -- a total system rebuild would be appropriate at this point.
