Ahtlon x 4 or Core2Quad?

I am looking at used towers on craigslist and
wondering if since they are priced about the same
should I get an athlon x 4 or Core2Quad?

C2Q will spank any of the Athlon / Athlon II family of CPU's and overclock nicely.

Well ...

I'd pick the one with DDR3 (if available) but I'm guessing they are both DDR2.

I don't think it really matters, but the Athlon quad will move to an AM3+ motherboard when you are so inclined.

Otherwise --- pick the one you can pirate the most parts from for a future build. Compare the HDDs, cases, PSUs & optical drives that you would be most interested in moving up.

Otherwise they are pretty much equal.

So a $275 processor beats a $99 processor, what are you trying to prove?

Nowadays if you look on Craiglist in USA used C2D,C2Q,Athlon x 4 etc are going for about $300 USD if you look around.
Seems pretty silly to buy a new C2Q CPU for the same price as complete used system.
I just saw a Q9450 based system for $275!
