Hi People,

Rather new to this gaming scene, been more techinical computer builds but
finally have some 'play time', however, I have a problem.

I have ZoneAlarm Pro 4.5, and the first encarnation of Unreal Tournament,
which simply locks up as soon as I try to play on my own server. I've added
port 7777-7781 UDP to ZoneAlarm.

Any pointers would be appreciated.

TIA,

Marcus

Your comment above is ambiguous as to which program locks up, is it
the server or the client or zonealarm pro?

UT tries to communicate with master servers over some other ports, see
the INI file for these lines:

ServerActors=IpServer.UdpServerUplink
MasterServerAddress=unreal.epicgames.com MasterServerPort=27900
ServerActors=IpServer.UdpServerUplink
MasterServerAddress=master0.gamespy.com MasterServerPort=27900
ServerActors=IpServer.UdpServerUplink
MasterServerAddress=master.mplayer.com MasterServerPort=27900

This could be your problem, just a thought.

Zone Alarm seems to have a lot of problems with various programmes. A
recent major example was that it was messing up newsgroup posts that
were posted in yEnc. It's more trouble than it's worth.

If you want to change your firewall, I suggest Sygate. It's similar to
Zone Alarm, but without the problems.

Kerio Personal Firewall is good, too. Uses very little resources. But
be sure to get the 2.1.5 version, cause the 4.x versions is a totally
different app. It's free.

The latest version 55 062 11 is fine the yenc thing is fixed. I've had no
problems with this version.

Just a thought is your server remote or are your trying to play on the same
machine as the server?
http://www.unrealadmin.org/ Might be worth a look

Thanks all for replies, I'll see what I am doing wrong as I am able to play
when ZoneAlarm is switched off (closed down) and since I am behind the
router with it's own firewall presently I am not to worried.

Thanks again,

Marcus.
