Mic trouble

Alright well as the titles states I am having some trouble with my mic. It appears under "sound" in the control panel but doesn't appear to be picking up any noise. I've used this mic before with no problem on this exact same computer fairly recently so I'm not really sure what's wrong. I'm running Windows Vista and the mic is being used with a USB adapter if that helps at all.

Did you check the mixer settings to make sure it isn't muted?
