Your question

CPU Bottlenecking GTX 470???

Hey Everyone, I just have a question. I have an AMD Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition OC @ 3.4ghz. Now I just recently received a PNY Technologies GTX 470. The card is, without question, GREAT!!! My only concern is that my CPU may be bottlenecking the GTX 470 because comparing the benchmarks to ones online, mine seem to come up a bit short. Is it time for me to go quad or even hexa core?? :pt1cable:

Hello
No it should work fine without any bottlenecks.

Can anybody else put in their input because I am not getting the same FPS that the benchmarks show. I put all the settings on what is was done on in the benchmarks and it seems slower.

Well, what benchmarks did you run? Give us some example's so we can give you a better answer.

the 470 is considerably faster than dual 9800GTX+'s..

Yeah never got to updating my tag. Anyway, in Battlefield Bad Company 2, tomshardware's benchmarks said it has an average FPS of around 70 in the intro sequence. So I put those exact settings, got Fraps, and ran it for myself. I only got an average of 50. Once again, will my AMD Phenom II X3 @3.4ghz be doing this because I understand that they used an Intel Core I7, which beats the X3's butt in everything.

Forget about what "tomshardware's benchmarks" shows, every PC is different therefore the numbers will differ. Run a benchmark like FFXIV or 3dmark06 and show us some numbers, then I will lock up one of my cores and lower the clock to 3.4Ghz and run the same test. We compare numbers and you get your answer ;)

Actually, on Furmark Heaven 2.0, I scored a 900 with Tesselation on Extreme and everything else at its default. 1680 X 1050.

I really don't know why I have to run a benchmark. I only asked a simple question which was will my tri-core, not a high end CPU, bottleneck my high end gtx 470???
