Recently, I installed an i5-760 and the cpu fan cable was wrapped too tightly around the fan which didn't allow it to move. I left the computer on for about 45 minutes to an hour before noticing it. After I turned it off, the heatsink was pretty hot (hot to the touch but not hot enough to pull my finger away from it, though it was almost to that point in terms of heat). Got the fan to run and everything seems normal but should I be worried about any damage done to the cpu from this situation?

Your ok, the chip/motherboard are designed to shutdown in the event that thermal limits are reached to prevent damage. I wouldn't go running your computer without a fan 24/7 but one shutdown didn't do significant damage, I wouldn't worry.
