When I am connected to my ADSL ISP, I am continually sending 55 bytes of
information(?) from my PC when not actively using internet.

I have run a full virus scan and nothing was found. I am also using full
McAfee Security Suite set with 100% security index.

Anyone know why I am sending these bytes and how to stop this?

To find out if this comes from software running in the background
(including the virus scanner), see "How to Troubleshoot By Using the
Msconfig Utility in Windows XP"

Clean Boot in Windows XP" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=310353).

Many thanks for your help. After many tests and restarts (there are a lot of
services, most of which I am sure are not required!) the software causing the
problem was "doctor speedtouch" (drst.exe), software that was initiated (and
loading at startup) when installing the ADSL modem. Through properties for
this software I was able to stop this from running at start up. The sending
of the bytes has ceased and no performance issues have been experienced.
