Need a realy quiet PSU!

I need a really quiet PSU. around 550w.
I now have a corsair VX 550w, but I am not happy with noise levels. Even if its promoted as being a quiet PSU. Well its 3-4 years old. Maybe thats the reason.

So any suggestions? max 100-120 usd

Out of curiosity, what are you running through the corsair? It might be loud because it has reached the upper limits, and has to spin the fan fast to keep cool.

I run:

amd 965 BE 3,4 ghz
4 gig ram
GT8800
3 hdd

I guess 550w is plenty for that. so cant see that as the reason for noise.

the fanless looks interesting. But are they reliable?
and 400w might be too little for my system?

Yeah that should be able to run your rig np, the only thing I can think of is high case temps, or the unit is just loud.

think the unit is just loud. I have a fractal design r3 case with intake in front and exhaust in the back. shouldnt be a heat problem.

I really dont want to risk bying a new psu with same power output, but with no reduction in noise. but will the 400w fanless psu be able to drag my system?

the first one COLGeek linked to, the fanless seasonic, is a nice psu. im sure it will be able to power your system. only thing is that with less exhaust fannage of the psu you must have at least one other exhaust fan.

I already have one exhaust fan in my case. so with a fanless psu I mean I should have 2?

no, imo one is enough...its just that sometimes the psu fan is the only exhaust, i wanted to make sure tat wasnt the case!

Go for a fan less 80+gold psu.
Almost no heat + no sound.
