I'm all ready to order, and I'm just posting in a few places to make sure I haven't screwed up majorly. Here's my build:

Rosewill Blackbone Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Western Digital Caviar Black WD5001AALS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

OCZ Fatal1ty OCZ550FTY 550W ATX12V v2.2 / EPS12V SLI Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply

MSI 880GM-E43 AM3 AMD 880G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

POWERCOLOR PCS+ AX5770 1GBD5-PPG Radeon HD 5770 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card

OCZ Gold 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory Model OCZ3G1333LV4GK.NE

AMD Athlon II X4 630 Propus 2.8GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Processor ADX630WFGIBOX
I'm paying $722(CAD) including shipping & taxes, before $60 mail-in rebate. Buying from Newegg.ca.

I don't need an OS or a cd/dvd drive... just making a last check to be sure everything is definitely compatible, and to ask if there is anything else I need to buy along with what I have. (e.g thermal paste, a case fan... anything necessary?) However, I really would like not to spend any more money.

Thanks all! ^^

Here's an Antec PSU

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817103941

Use the Promo code and it's 45$ for by some accounts a better PSU, and probably more reliable PSU company.

And for a 500gb drive go with the Samsung Spinpoint f3

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152181

Also a little cheaper, with that you could probably spring for a Phenom II X4, or a GTX 460.

In addition, I would go with the G-Skill ram at that price range, seem to be more reliable these days.

Didn't even think about that, barring some bizzare changes in price I still stand by my recommendations as better and or cheaper options. Also, I don't know about in Canada, but the Samsung Spinpoint F3 on the USA site is only like 5 more bucks for the 1TB vs the 500 Gb.

Haha, no 1TB Spinpoint available. So, so far, here's my build:

Rosewill Blackbone Black Steel / Plastic ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD502HJ 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive

OCZ Fatal1ty OCZ550FTY 550W ATX12V v2.2 / EPS12V SLI Ready 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply (It's -35$ instant, free shipping, and $20 mail in rebate... can't get a better deal with any other PSU)

MSI 880GM-E43 AM3 AMD 880G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

POWERCOLOR PCS+ AX5770 1GBD5-PPG Radeon HD 5770 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 CrossFireX Support Video Card

OCZ Gold 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10600) Desktop Memory Model OCZ3G1333LV4GK.NE (This is bundled with my CPU for 5$ instant and $20 combo savings)

AMD Athlon II X4 630 Propus 2.8GHz Socket AM3 95W Quad-Core Processor ADX630WFGIBOX

This all works out to $701 with shipping and taxes. Is there anything else I can do to improve this? I'm not adverse to a complete reworking of the build; the GeForce 460 is really appealing, but I really can't afford it with everything as is... I'm pretty much at the top of my budget.

Okay, the CPU motherboard combo isn't available anymore... instead, I can take the Ripjaw RAM, and grab the same Athlon II along with a Biostar A770E. I'm a bit hesitant about doing this though, according to most people Biostar isn't a very reliable brand... not sure what to do.

I personally would stay away from Biostar. Here's a Gigabyte Mobo for only 10$ more that should be pretty reliable

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128451

I believe that leaves you with...

Case: Rosewill Blackbone Black Steel Case
HDD: Samsung Spinpoint F3 500Gb
PSU: OCZ Fatal1ty OCZ550FTY 550W
Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-MA770T-UD3
CPU: AMD Athlon II X4
RAM: GSkill Ripjaw series 4 Gb (2x2Gb) DDR3 1333
GPU: XFX 5770 (PowerColor is fine too, but I usually go with XFX, they've got a great lifetime warranty)

According to Canadian Newegg it should be cheaper (and more reliable/better) than the last full list you posted that came out to 701$
Of coarse, we've already had some price mix ups  How's that look?

This is now $739... with the more reliable MoBo, I think this will do :) I'll hunt around for more combos though, hoping to lower the price more.

Thanks for all the help!

Just found this locally for $600:

- AMD Athlon II x2 250 @ 3.01GHZ Per Core
- 4.50 GB of Ram
- Windows 7 x64bit Edition
- Nvidia 260 GTX Core OC Edition
- 500GB Sata Hard Drive
- DVDRW/CDRW LG Drive
- Gaming Case

How's that? 0.o

It's not bad, but not knowing what brand etc the Mobo, Ram, HDD are stink. I would think you could probably build a better one from Newegg for the same price.

I know it's 130$ price difference, but if you have the 130$ the one you would build from Newegg is quite a bit better.

5770>GTX260 and scales great in crossfire and is Direct X 11 capable
Chances are the Ram, Mobo, are better.
The quad core is clearly better than the dual core.

If you need to save more I would scavenge newegg a little longer, but that could be your best deal.

Try this combo deal:
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.481598
Mobo + ram for about 75$ each... saves 45$
You can get WD 500gb ram for 40$( here its a tad slow u can go for the samsung spinpoint f3)... brings u to about 200
You can get the 5770 with $20 rebate for 150 (after rebate)
so 350... 45 for ur psu, 50 for ur case (take a look at the rosewill challenger) and 105 for ur processor.... off the top of my head looking at 650 after everything
