I may have the sorriest connection in the U.S., but at the moment, it is all
I can afford... can't afford RR or EarthLink or DSL, can't justify having
both a landline phone and a cellphone, so I'm connecting through my
cellphone. It is the pits, and I know that I need to get a better IP, but I
can't do any better right now.

I have a number of DUN problems on Windows XP SP2, fully updated.

1) The connection dies after a minute or two, and I can't reconnect.
2) The connection dies after a minute or two, and I can reconnect but not
RD/TX.
In either of these circumstances, I must restart Windows. Logging off and
on has no effect.

3) The connection has a two-minute timeout, which I can defeat by running a
ping. But that is not a UDP, so I'm not sure that it keeps the web
connection alive. If the network is busy, my connection may timeout in less
than two minutes.

4) I have set the network connection to
Enable hardware flow control
Enable modem error control
Enable modem compression
However, the modem log does not acknowledge these.

230400bps is the correct speed for a 144000bps modem. However, the problems
are identical if I set the network connection at 115200bps.

I have investigated as far as I know to go on the hardware side. I hope you
can suggest some tweak to DUN that will make this a solid and reliable
connection. Thank you.

Sorry you haven't received any help with this. I can't offer any
suggestions as I'm not familiar with this type of connection (by cell
phone). I took a look over at broadbandreports.com though (aka
dslreports.com) and they have a forum for Other Connectivity> Cellphones

May want to check that out. The chances of getting help would probably be
greater as the folks there will be more familiar with this type of
connection and the challenges one can run into with it. Good luck with
this!
