Would non supported ram prevent posting?

mobo: ASRock H67M-ITX LGA 1155 Intel H67 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Mini ITX Intel Motherboard
cpu: Intel Pentium G620 Sandy Bridge 2.6GHz LGA 1155 65W Dual-Core Desktop Processor BX80623G620
ram: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL8D-4GBXM

New build, no post but fans will spin. Per troubleshooting, I removed the ram sticks and got the memory error tones. Looking on the manufacturer site, the ram I purchased is not listed as supported. Would this issue prevent posting?
Want to try and avoid the restocking fee if I haven't ruled out another cause.

  1. It shouldn't, but it could. The memory could just as easily be faulty, though.
  2. so if ram in = no post, and ram out = memory error beeps, bad ram sticks?
  3. Problems with the memory system anyway, and most likely the sticks themselves.

My reasoning for that is simply that the system is functioning correctly without the RAM, and isn't with, so it is probably the RAM that is the culprit. I could be wrong and it could be something else though.
