For that price, an AMD build would probably be your best bet...this is roughly what I just made...

CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W/SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal HDD combo $144.98

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)/LIAN LI PC-7FN Black Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer Case combo $162.98

ASUS M4A89TD PRO/USB3 AM3 AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard/AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz Socket AM3 combo
GIGABYTE GV-N460OC-1GI GeForce GTX 460 (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 $229.99

LITE-ON Black DVD writer
$25.99

Total: $889.92 before shipping.

Notes: SLI will not be possible without SLI hack on an AMD system, so you can scrap the GTX460 for an ATi card so you can crossfire in the future. Also, the RipJaw series RAM is "optimized" for Intel CPUs, so it will most likely default to a lower setting than is advertised, but this is easily correctable in the BIOS. Overclocking will be easy with this mobo/CPU combo, as ASUS boards are phenomenal for this purpose, and the Black Edition CPU is made for OC

/edit/ Any idea why half my links aren't working?

Thanks for the suggestion Inane. Concidering what you said, I swapped the GTX460 for a 5850. I'm also thinking I'll change to a cheaper DVD burner since I don't care about LightScribe.

Changed Parts:
Sony Optiarc CD/DVD Burner Black SATA Model AD-7260S-0B - OEM $18.99
XFX HD-585X-ZAFC Radeon HD 5850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card w/ Eyefinity $279.99

This still look good? Also, is 650w enough knowing that I plan to upgrade semi-regularly? I see similar gaming builds going for 750w, although I'm not clear on the reasons.

Thanks again <3

P.S. Looks like those links aren't working because you hit enter before/after the url tag.

850w is a tad much though, isn't it? There was a psu+case combo in a solved thread a little ways down so I grabbed that. Also found a gpu+ram combo.

Again... I changed some parts and am not sure if everything is compatible.

New Parts:
OCZ 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model OCZ3F1600LV4GK $85.99
Antec Six Hundred Black Black Computer Case $79.99
Antec EarthWatts EA750 750W Continuous Power ATX12V version 2.3 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC "compatible with Core i7/Core i5" Power Supply $79.99

Thanks for the help so far guys.

Edit: What's the advantage of the ASUS M4A89TD PRO/USB3 AM3 AMD 890FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard over the ASRock 870 EXTREME3 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard? I'm getting close to the top of my budget, and was thinking of dropping the current gpu+ram combo for a gpu+6gb ram combo.

No problem...

The issue with the PSU you got, though, is it has 4 12V rails, meaning you're going to have to carefully balance your power. I try and stick with single, high-amperage 12V rails to avoid this headache. Also, just because the PSU is rated at 850W doesn't mean it's continually sucking that much power...it's just rated up to that much.

Here is a good, single-rail 750W PSU from Corsair...

Hyper 212+? 25$
Win7 (combo with case) 90$

1056 total. It's a fair bit faster/nicer than the AMD build.
