Speedstep or probleeemo

My CPU claims to have a clock speed of nearly 1.8 ghz
It is a Intel Core 2 Duo e7400 2.8ghz.
I know that this should be speed step, but it does not change when I play a very cpu intensive game.
I know it should be running faster because the CPU is apparently working at 100%.
I checked in the bios and it says that the multiplier is x6.
What is going wrong?

The speed remains at 1.5-6 ghz even when rendering complex images.
This makes hombal a sad panda.

I would guess you are being limited by the FSB of your motherboard. You need 266/1066 and it looks as if you are running 10.5x166.

Is the CD2 e7400 officially supported? Do you need a BIOS update?

I have a Intel® X48 Express Chipset.
Isnt that 1600 fsb?
How do I tell if i need a BIOS update?

I am considering changing the bios multiplier to 10.5 or updating it.
Is this safe?

Break through!
I opened up the BIOS and changed the multiplier to 10.
All my games and renders now run much faster.
CPU-Z now works properly and so does speedstep.
