I switched from a dual core to a quad core-not my motherboard because it supported the processor i upgraded to, if that makes any difference, and yes, i didn't reinstall windows xp after i installed the new cpu. Should i do this?

Turn off cool and quiet and check again, when your CPU is not under load cool n quiet will drop the voltage and drop it down to 800MHz to save power and heat. If you turn it off or put it underload your processor should run at full speed.

I would leave cool n quiet on once you verify that you run at the correct speed because it will help reduce your idle power consumption significantly.

It's a god job you got to the bottom of it before monkey-nonce got chance to delete posts and close your thread!! :D

Sounds a bit bitter. I have only had one post deleted but that was showing a windows hack and debateable whether it broke forum rules so no complaints.
