More about wrong speed
  1. I switched from a dual core to a quad core-not my motherboard because it supported the processor i upgraded to, if that makes any difference, and yes, i didn't reinstall windows xp after i installed the new cpu. Should i do this?
  2. Can you post a screen capture?
  3. Cool and quiet or Speedstep enabled?
Whats your Mobo and chip models, maybe we can figure this one out with knowledge
    Moto
  4. You have to Check your Bios setting , i Guss you will find the multiplier is lower and the FSB as well
  5. My motherboard is a gigabyte Ga- M61PME-s2
  6. ok ill do that now. And AMD k8 cool n quiet is on the auto setting.
  7. First instead of pulling my pc apart, there are 2 serials or sets of characters on th e manual that my processor came with. These are OPN:ADX620WFGIBOX and SN:9B24647L90144.
  8. Turn off cool and quiet and check again, when your CPU is not under load cool n quiet will drop the voltage and drop it down to 800MHz to save power and heat. If you turn it off or put it underload your processor should run at full speed.

I would leave cool n quiet on once you verify that you run at the correct speed because it will help reduce your idle power consumption significantly.
  9. Thanks guys for all your help. You hit the nail right on the head with that one!
    Once again thanks :)

Sounds a bit bitter. I have only had one post deleted but that was showing a windows hack and debateable whether it broke forum rules so no complaints.
