Hey, I'm planning on building a new computer, and have a budget of about 3000 dollars... I want a beastly gaming computer.. here's what I was thinking

Graphics card - 2X ati 5870
ram - 6gb
hard drive - velociraptor 500gb
mobo - asus II rampage extreme..
psu - 1000w
cpu - core i7 3.3ghz

I don't know, that's just something I threw together that came to around 3000.. (with shipping and handling)

I'm open to all suggestions

Look at the sticky and check out the builds by usage thread, enthusiast builds. Also look at the stickied high end build suggestions.

$3000 is dream machine territory and what you have listed there is not nearly as good as you can get for that much.

Yeah, but I want a card that supports DX11, and I also want crossfire... Hmm

IMO chop that cash in half and spend half now and half again in 2 years. For 1500$ you can make an extremely solid build.

Alternatively, spend a good chunk of that cash on components that aren't as volatile in value like IPS or 3D monitors.

I mean, in 2 months the 5870s are going to be devalued severely by the 6000 series. In 3 months Sandy Bridge will devalue the i7s.

if you can afford to wait for the 6xxx series in like one or two months they coming out would be an idea time to buy stuff not to mention intel SDD in 25mm are also coming out cheaper and more capacity.
