ATX Power Supply Wattage

Hello everyone. I have a ATX power supply that says it can give out 500 Watts Max. But how can i be sure that this is true. Is there a mechanism to test it ?

Pretty much, no. To really test a PSU takes some fairly exotic test equipment.

Brand and model can be a good indicator. Strangely enough, its weight in comparison with similarly rated power supplies is a good indication. The better PSU will be heavier.
