I'm looking for software (WinXP) that makes it quick and easy for me to
look through a set of digital images and choose the ones I want.
In particular I want it to show me the image, a histogram of the image,
optionally flash the blown out pixels, and show me the camera settings
at the time of shooting.
Most digital cameras can do this in the viewfinder. I just want to do
it on my nice large PC screen. I've been using IrfanView which is fine
for viewing, but doesn't have the extras I want. Simple image editing
such as rotation and contrast adjustment will be a plus.
I frequently shoot multiple exposures of the same shot so I want to
throw away all but one, and I need the histogram/blown pixel
visualization to choose properly.

Exifer is the closest I know, but won't do all items in your list. Not sure
what you mean by 'blown out pixels'

I use ThumbsPlus. I'm not sure what you mean by "flash the blown out
pixels," but I have found that email will be promptly answered, so you could
ask specific questions before using. You could also download a demo
version. If interested, go to www.cerious.com.

On my DR, I can make the "preview" (actually an "afterview" ) show the
overexposed ("blown out" ) areas of the pic flash, so I can see the
resaults of the settings used.
I think that's what the OP means.

SNIP
You may want to check-out cPicture (http://www.cpicture.de/en/), there
is a freeware version available.

A second vote for BreezeBrowser here!
Get the trial and play with it for a while, it can do a lot of stuff!

Take a look at pixort. It's made for doing an ultra fast selection.
You can place the image's in up to 5 places. All can be done with the
keyboard so very fast.
