CD/DVD Drive Troubles

hey guys, i recently just bought a Samsung DVD Drive, plugged it in, put it together and turn the pc on. i looked in the device manager and it said it was connected which was great, but when i open it, it justs opens and shut really fast and doesnt give me a chance to put any disks in it, i checked "My Computer" and it was not connected, any answers to this? i asked my friend and he believes that the SATA 3 cable i have in has a tendency to stuff up cheaper drives, if anyone thinks that it could be that please let me know, thank you very much.
