Would you upgrade to a GTX460 in this case?

I've got a 9800gtx+ and for the moment, I don't have any problem playing anything. If that were the end of the story, I'd say I obviously shouldn't be upgrading. What's the point?

But my brother's video card seems to be dying, and he's broke, so I'm considering making the upgrade, and handing him my old card so he can play sc2. In that case, am I going to get a significant bump in power from the upgrade, or would it be better to buy him some cheap card now for $100 or less, save myself the other $100, and upgrade sometime later when my card isn't cutting it?

Sounds like a good time (or good excuse) to upgrade now. The GTX 460 should prove to be a suitable upgrade for you.

As ct1615 suggested, make sure your brother's PSU has the available power output to supply the 9800GTX+.

What resolution are you using?
If you are at 1080P(1920 x 1080) then you will get a modest jump from a GTX460. Particularly from the 1gb version.

I say, be nice to your brother and yourself.
He gets a better card in the 9800GTX+ than a $100 card.
You get a better card in ghe GTX460.

A GTX 460 768MB would be about a 33% jump in performance over a 9800 GTX+, a GTX 460 1GB about a 40% jump. Yeah, it would be a pretty fair upgrade.
