Hello,
What copy of the bios do I need to run an AMD 1090T 6 core proc in my ASUS M4A78 PRO motherboard? And can I update the bios with the 1090t in place?

Doubtful, If the board needs an update to support a newer chip, why would you think it can use the chip prior to update? That would mean no update is actually necessary *facepalm*

Look at the support page for your board:
Tells you if it supports your CPU at all.
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM2Plus/M4A78_PRO/#CPUS

Gives you the BIOS. Just download and put on flash drive.
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM2Plus/M4A78_PRO/#download

And support for your board to look it up yourself:
http://support.asus.com/Cpusupport/List.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=M4A78%20Pro&p=1&s=24

All in less than 3 minutes. Google it, That's why Asus puts ALL the information necessary on it's site.

And you would need version 1607 or later. Get the newest version (1701 at this post) and you should be good. Pending you do it right. Extract the .zip to a flash drive, insert drive, boot to BIOS and use E-Z flash.

Thanks for the POLITE and USEFUL reply!

I've been using PCs (and the net) since 1980. I still have my KayPro (or KayComp) portable (all 30 + pounds of it) the same model used to write the movie "2001 A Space Odessey.

I think I know my beans but I don't think I know EVERYTHING like some of the people who hang out on forums just to flame anyone who dares to ask a question that is not up to their "standards".

Anyway thanx again and as My Yorkshire born wife says, "keep your pecker up and your powder dry".
