The game will playable at low resolutions and settings but it wont look pretty. For gaming at the native resolution of that monitor you really want a real video card. Something for around $100 like the HD4850 or GTS 250 would do pretty well.

Is your friend buying a desktop computer or a laptop?

If it's a desktop, then your friend can tryout the game with the integrated video, but he (she) will likely want to buy a dedicated video card.

If your friend is buying a laptop, then I highly recommend your friend find something with a Radeon HD 5550 / 5570 (not very familiar with current mobile video card models). Only the more expensive laptop may allow you to upgrade the video card after you buy it. However, these mobile video cards modules are hard to find and very expensive; about 2x - 3x the cost of the desktop equivalent.

If there's a mobile equivalent to the HD 5750, then I'm pretty sure it will cost at least $300.

The mobile equivalent of the HD5750 is the MHD5850, which is avaliable on high-end gaming laptops.

For under $800, the best card for a laptop is the HD5650 (Which is essentially a HD5570) on the Acer/Gateways.
