AMD socket compatability

I am looking at an AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3. Would this CPU be compatable with an Asrock K1078M motherboard?

  1. Unfortunately no,your board supports AM2 CPU only

  2. http://wize.com/motherboards/p1366921-asrock-k10n78m#specs

Is the motherboard shown in the above link the one you have.? In that case, it must support the X4 965 as the chipset is AM3 compatible.. Here's another website which posts a build using the same motherboard and a Phenom II processor -

  3. But Emperus, the CPU support list doesn't show any AM3 CPUs

  4. Hi bionicrdnck, Welcome to THW.

    Post Edited, I made a mistake. :(

I cannot find this motherboard model on AsRock's site, are you sure that is the correct model number bionicrdnck?

Otherwise if it is the K10n78: http://www.asrock.com/mb/cpu.asp?Model=K10N78, then it can support the AMD 955BE with BIOS version P1.50 for the C2 and P1.60 for the C3 chip.
  5. http://www.asrock.com/mb/cpu.asp?Model=K10N78M

From the cpu compatability chart it would seem the 955 would work just fine...heck the board will support the 6-core models.
