Is i7-950 Compatible with socket 1156?

Hello,

I just purchased an i7 950 CPU and intended to use it with my ASUS P7P55D-E LX Socket 1156 MOBO. Will this be compatible or must I get a Socket 1366 MOBO to run it?

The sockets dont match, one has 1366 pins the other has 1156 pins, you must run an LGA 1366 CPU on an LGA 1366 motherboard.

What made you think it might work with a 1156 board?

I thought it might work because the board description indicated it was compatible with i3, i5 and i7.

Ahh, unfortunately there are two different line ups of i7s, the 8xx series is for LGA 1156 boards, while the 9xx series is for X58 boards. That at least explains the source of confusion.
