  1. Depends. Do you need mouse? Keyboard? Operating system? Monitor? Speakers?

Lowest I personally would go would be this:

    RANA 445 + Biostar 770 Motherboard - $111

    Samsung Spinpoint F3 500gb + OCZ 550W PSU - $100 ($80 after rebate)

Rosewill Case plus DVD Drive - $49
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.467039

    4gb RAM G Skill - $98

    MSI GTX250 - $70 after rebate
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127495&cm_re=gts250-_-14-127-495-_-Product

    Total: $408

So, about $400 is about the lowest I personally would be willing to spend on a system - it has plenty of power and with a GPU upgrade when you can afford it you have a system that will last quite some time. You are also able to upgrade the CPu to the BUlldozer in the future. So with a couple upgrades over the years it can last an easy 5 years

Beyond that there is the cost of Operating system, monitor, mouse/keyboard and speakers that you may or may not need.

In an ideal world a more powerful GPU would be nice, but a tight budget is a tight budget and the GTX250 is still a nice little card for lower than 1920 x 1080 resolutions
  2. sadly he will not be able to upgrade to a bulldozer cpu in the future, socket am3 doesnt support the bulldozer cpus only socket am3+ will, socket am3+ is not available right now though, but socket am3+ is cool as it is backwards compatible so it will support am3 cpus, but socket am3 wont support bulldozer cpus, but your build is pretty solid

I don't quite understand? Bulldozer? This will be my first build not sure what you are talking about. thanks. :hello:
  4. bulldozer is the name of a new range of amd cpus coming out later next year or sometime

ok thank you. Would you be able to offer a different build that would be compatible with these?
  6. Ah, so AMD is not the futureproofing beast people claimed to be? Interesting.

jm, currently there are no motherboards around that would be able to use the Bulldozer CPU.
HOwever, that does not really effect the build I gave, the only difference is instead of upgrading to the Bulldozer you would upgrade to a Phenom II 965 in the future (if you even need to, with a good GPU you will find you can go a good number of years with the build and by the time you want a better CPU you may be looking to replace motherboard by then anyway)

Would this work well for the total war games including shogun 2?
