I want to replace the cpu in my dell dimension 1100 from a
celeron 2.53 to a Pentium 4 2.8. I got the part number from Dell but am confused by the various step codes. Do I need to worry about this?
Step codes are when the manufacture has made changes/improvements to the manufacturing process, so the later the stepping code the more up to date the chip is.
Here is a link to Wiki that explains it in detail: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stepping_(version_numbers)
