How Does SMART Work?

I just got made a new pc and I'm using a Samsung 840 series. I noticed this thing called SMART under the program Samsung SSD Magician V3.2 and from what I gather, it shows the status and health of my SSD.
All the values which are listed under current value and worst value are 100 or 99 except my Airflow and ECC Error Rate. My ECC Error Rate is 200 / 200. My Airflow says the current value is 72 and the worst value is 60. Is 72 and 60 good or bad? What does this mean exactly?
