Regarding asus laptop n53sv xe1

Solution
Two points:

1. this laptop uses the HM65 chipset - I thought the B3 requirement only applied to H67 and P67 chipsets?

2. the Sandy Bridge chipset problem only applied to the four SATA II ports; the two SATA III ports are fine. When the problem was announced, Intel pointed out that laptops might be unaffected by the problem because they typically only use two SATA ports (hard drive, optical drive), so they could use the two SATA III ports, and not worry about the others.

However, the revised chips were available in March/April. If the machine you are looking at was built after then, it probably uses a good chip.
