Compaq Presario F700 laptop DVD drive not recognized but spins

I have a Compaq Presario F700 laptop with Windows Vista that recognizes the CD/DVD drive/writer in the BIOS but not in Device Manager. When I put a DVD in, the light comes on and the disc spins but nothing else. I cannot eject via the button on the drive. If I use a paperclip in the manual eject hole it will open the drive, but the disc continues to spin even when open. I've uninstalled and let Vista reinstall the IDE controllers. That did not help, I ran the Microsoft DVD/CD Fixit but it did not recognize the drive. Any ideas? I didn't see anything exactly like this already in the forum.

More than likely the drive has reached it's end of life.
